Construction of a SEWAGE SLUDGE THERMAL TREATMENT PLANT together with heat management and modernisation of the accompanying installations in the sewage treatment plant

On the 22nd of April 2013, IDS-BUD S.A. signed the contract for the “Construction of a Sewage Sludge Thermal Treatment Plant together with heat management and modernisation of the accompanying installations in the Sewage Treatment Plant in Ciechanów”. It has been contracted by Zakład Wodociągów i Kanalizacji w Ciechanowie Sp. z o.o. [Water and Sewage Pipelines Centre in Ciechanów]. The object of contract consists in designing and carrying out construction and assembly works. The investment forms part of the project called “Modernisation and extension of the water and sewage system in the Ciechanów agglomeration – Stage I” co-financed with European Union funds within the framework of the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme. To be completed in: November 2015.

The foreseen ecological effects after implementing this project are the following:
  • dewatering and drying of ca. 14,000t/yr of sewage sludge, allowing for the co-incineration or incineration of the sludge outside of the treatment plant;
  • improvement of the sludge fermentation process leading to an increase in biogas production;
  • using the produced biogas to produce heat and electrical energy with the help of a cogeneration unit;
  • producing about 12,000kWh/d of “green” electrical energy;
  • adjustment of the existing facilities to operate together with the newly designed sludge thermal treatment plant;
  • reduction of drinking water consumption as process water;
  • improvement of the treatment plant’s technical standard;
  • increased flexibility of the treatment plant operation.
